For 1978-1982, the race was known as the Labatt's Toronto Marathon; for 1984-1985 it was known as the Miller High Life Toronto Marathon; for 1986-1988 it was known as the Metro Toronto Marathon, and from 1991 thru 1995, it was known as the Shoppers Drug Mart Marathon. The race was not run in 1989 due to lack of a sponsor; an alternate marathon known as the Pepsi Run Against Drig Abuse Marathon was held in North York on 29 Oct 1989 (results unknown). No race was held in 1993 due to the change to a May date. Organized by the Ontario Track & Field Association (John Craig with some help from Alan Brookes).
