Notes: 1923 is considered the inaugural race of this series. There was an early race held in 1909 and won by James Roberts (ENG) in 2:40:28.8 and a 19 mile race held in 1908 that was won by Frederick Lord in 1:50:23 . The 1969-73 events were known as the Maxol Marathon; the 1985 event was known as the Piccadilly Marathon.

The August 1924 race saw the two lead runners inadvertently cut the course. The referee ruled "the placings at the finishing post must stand" and Duncan Wright was awarded the win. Samuel Ferris in 2:47:44 was the first finisher to complete the full course.
