Notes: 1958 was the inaugural year and the race was named the Macombs Dam Park Marathon.. This race was known as
the Cherry Tree Marathon (1959-1970) and was held in the Bronx. In 1971, it was moved to Central Park (Manhattan)
and called the Earth Day Marathon thru the 1973 race. In 1973, the Earth Day Marathon was moved to Long Island
with the start and finish in Westbury with the start and finish on the racetrack at Roosevelt Parkway. In 1978,
the start/finish were moved to near-by Eisenhower Park in East Meadow and the name was changed to the Long Island
Marathon. The 1960 course was considerably short. The Cherry Tree Marathon took its name from the cherry tree that
served as a turn-around point on the course that was three laps of a 7.03 km out-and-back section. In 1991, Linda
Lucas was disqualified for being paced but then reinstated on appeal; Lisa Kovesdy (NY/USA) was the 2nd finisher
at 3:18:56.
