Notes: 1952 was the inaugural year. The distance for the 1952 race was 35 km. The course is between Beppu and Oita, starting and finishing in Beppu for all races 1983 and earlier. For the 1984 and subsequent races, the start and finish were in Oita with the turnaround point in Beppu. This change was undertaken to take advantage of prevailing tail winds on the return leg. The race was known as the Beppu Mainichi Marathon thru 1974.

The 1979 race was reported to have had a woman finisher, Kiyoko Obata (JPN) in 2:48:52.
The 1981 race was reported to have had a woman finisher, Minoru Muramoto (JPN) in 2:50:31.
